Musstir and Omran Award CARILLION ALAWI as Main Contractor for Al-Baleed 5-Star Resort in Salalah

Musstir, the Hospitality & Property Development Company of MB Group in Oman, and its 50% joint venture partner, Omran, announced today that, further to a full tender process involving major contracting companies, Carillion Alawi LLC was successfully awarded as Main Contractor for the prestigious Al Baleed Hotel Resort & Spa in Salalah. Part of the profit will be used to support the museum of the land of frankincense in Al Baleed Archaeological Park Museum. The project is one of the first Public Private Partnership (PPP) of its kind in Oman, laying ground for a new promising type of collaboration between the Public and Private Sectors in the future.

The 5-Star Al Baleed Resort will become a key attraction of UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al-Baleed, the cradle of culture and trade in the Governorate of Dhofar. The rich history of the ancient city will offer visitors an unforgettable experience, teamed with the warm Omani hospitality. The resort is a further step in enriching the city of Salalah, and sets an example of how to create site-sensitive luxury, whilst conserving Omanís rich natural environment.

As a socially responsible organisation, Musstir remains committed to sustaining and adding value to Omani society, the environment and the economy, through all its projects.

The resort is located at a prime site with easy access to Salalahís major road network, open to the sea front in the south and with spectacular views of the Al Baleed archaeological park to the west. The overall site layout is organised into areas that are both intimate and connected to a generous landscaping. The geometrical base structure of the future hotel not only refers to Dhofarís traditional plantations, settlements and early traditional living, but also ensures that the built elements gain the best orientation for solar access, shading and air flow.

Works will kick-off on site with Carillion Alawi starting mobilisation in December 2012, and anticipated to complete in 24 months in December 2014. Provisional opening date for the hotel will be during the first quarter of 2015. The extensive landscaped resort will feature a total of 136 rooms, operated by the prestigious luxury brand Anantara based in Thailand. The hotel will be composed of 106 one, two, and three bedroom chalets, most with their own private courtyard swimming pools, ensuring a total privacy. The main hotel building will house 30 additional guest rooms, recreation facilities, spa, Food & Beverage outlets; themed restaurants and function areas. The resort will also adhere to planning and building regulations which are considerate of the cultural and social contexts involved, and will integrate high quality environmental standards in both its attributes and operations.

Al Baleed Resort will be another strong tourism attraction for Oman and supports the aim to enrich and further strengthen the structure of the Sultanateís tourism. Furthermore, Al Baleed Resort will develop the tourism potential of the Dhofar region, as well as creating significant job opportunities for Omanis, in line with the Sultanateís vision for development, with tourism expected to be one of the largest sectors contributing to Omanís economic growth by 2020.
